Hand-dyed Yarns

Welcome to my online yarn studio.  I dye all of these Old Town Yarns by hand in my own studio. Every skein is special and dyed exclusively for you! I specialize in the most luxurious fibres and use pure Scottish Highland water to dye each skein.
Old Town Edinburgh Aran and Chunky Yarns
These heavier weight yarns are best knitted on 5 mm needles and above. They make thick and warm winter scarves, hats and sweaters. They are all hand dyed in Scotland for K1 Yarns!
Old Town Edinburgh Bulky Yarns
Our bulkiest yarn is spun in a 'thick and thin' style which gives loads of interesting texture to your knits. This yarn is VERY bulky and best knit with a large 10 - 12 mm needle or even larger! The larger the needle used the more the thick and thin texture of the yarn will come through. This is the perfect yarn to be used with my Random Lace collection of knitting patterns
Old Town Edinburgh DK-weight Yarns
A new and exclusive brand of yarns that have been hand-dyed in Scotland! We love the range of 10 colours from semi-solids to multi-colour dyes, all in super soft pure organic merino wool. The selection is available in both DK and Aran weights. For larger orders your purchase will be hand-dyed to order to ensure batch consistancy. This may take an extra 10-14 days and we will notify you at the time of your order.
Old Town Edinburgh Pure British Cashmere

Old Town Edinburgh Fine Laceweight Yarns
These beautiful laceweight yarns are perfect for gossamer shawls and scarves. I love my laceweight yarns to have a touch of silk for shine and to take up the wonderful colours, and beautiful soft Bluefaced Leicester wool gives them texture and elasticity so that your shawl will stay looking great forever!

Our Orkney Angora yarns are very popular! They are all completely hand dyed by a small family-run business in the Orkney Islands, The yarns are unbrushed. With knitting and wear they demonstrates a luxuriously soft and fluffy haze - the characteristic 'angora look'. The yarn is exceptionally comfortable to wear next to the skin not being at all itchy or scratchy. The yarn is usually suitable even for those with the most delicate skin. One of our yarns has been named after one of Orkney's most outstanding buildings - the St Magnus cathedral in Kirkwall.
