Katharine Walker

Katharine Walker was born in Ontario, Canada. After completing a Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of Toronto she moved to London, England where she spent her career working in the pharmaceutical industry. After many moves back and forth across the Atlantic she and her family finally settled in Glasgow, Scotland.  Katharine learnt to sew at the age of 12 and has knitted and sewn her own designs for all of her adult life.

Kristen Orme moved to Edinburgh from Florida, USA. Born in Mitchigan and raised in Florida, Kristen graduated from Florida State University in 2004 with a B.SC. in Fashion Design and Technology. She loves to sew and to design clothes! She is also an avid knitter and loves to teach people how to knit. She likes fun and fashionable designs that incorporate a useful twist! Jo Kelly

Jo Kelly was born in the Scottish Highlands and has been knitting on and off since she learned at primary school. She loves interesting textures and luxurious yarns, so a job in a knitting shop is perfect! She designs small projects which will cocoon you throughout the Scottish winter!

Susan McComb

Susan McComb lives in Glasgow and with a life long enthusiasm for textiles, studied design as a mature student at Glasgow School of Art. Specialiasing in knit, Susan graduated in 2009 with a BA(hons) in Textile Design. She is interested in traditional techniques used in knit and crochet and how they can be applied in a contemporary way to create stylish items to wear. Susan is also passionate about teaching ‘making skills’ to beginners. Having taught both crochet and knit classes at K1 Yarns she loves seeing the pleasure people derive from creating something beautiful and useful from a length of yarn and a hook!

Vala Dora Jonsdottir

Vala Dóra Jónsdóttir was born in Iceland and came to study photography in Edinburgh in 1997. Together with her husband Iain Bruce they formed The Dandelion Project in 2006, and this year The Lindstrom Effect, which showcases Vala's photography work and Iain's graphic design work. Vala has been teaching knitting and crochet classes at our Edinburgh shop since we opened in 2007. Her craft skills are inherited from Iceland, and her designs are combination of a love for nordic craft heritage and an appreciation of contemporary design. </p><p>Vala designs patterns for women and babies and as many of these patterns have been designed for our learn to knit and crochet courses, they are also suitable for beginner knitters and crocheters! Vala and Iain have also designed beautiful fabrics for K1 Yarns! If you would like to see thier fabric designs please to to the K1 Cloths department!
